It was confirmed by the club on Wednesday afternoon that David Webb had been relieved of his duties as first-team manager at York City, following just two months at the helm.
A bad run of results and just one league win brought the decision on, and now the Minstermen are on the lookout for a new boss to assist them in avoiding relegation from the National League, after winning promotion last season.
City fans had their say on social media regarding the matter:
Things only seemed to be heading one way unfortunately so it seemed inevitable. Thankfully there's enough time to turn things around and climb back up the table. Hopefully the next appointment is a proven one rather than another experiment.
@adam_york
About time, but who will be responsible for recruiting the replacement? The trust? The outgoing Chairman? Do we wait for a new owner?
@simonsoothill
I'm not sure there was another option after the last few weeks. Good luck to him as a person, but this role was a risk.
@LewMills84
Should never have been appointed to the job. No where near experienced enough. Not good enough tactically, and clearly had very few man management or media skills. Saying he didn’t care what the fans thought of him didn’t help. Genuinely wish him the best but glad he’s now gone.
@DMIbbott
This seemed like an experiment to appoint someone out of nowhere. It went badly wrong. 4pts from 21 is a shocking return, and so I'm not surprised he's gone. However, I'm surprised Hendo has sacked him, as it proves he was wrong to appoint him in the first place.
@rocknrollnobody
Surely everybody @YorkCityFC recognised that we were heading back to the NLN with Webb. This “experiment” of Henderson’s has not worked. Inaction now would have been acquiescing to relegation. GH must now surely follow DW out of the door? Too late for #JohnAskey to return? 🤞
@ElsArthurians
One of the worst appointments in football history. It was obvious after his first game in charge he wasn’t in any way suitable for the role. Seemed clueless on tactics, motivation, organisation, not media savvy and wouldn’t have got any respect in the dressing room.
@StrickenOffice
A terrible, misguided appointment from the start after it was clear a thorough process hadn't even begun, was out of his depth and his interviews were full of dated clichés. The team was absolutely clueless under his reign.
@mikecoops85
He should have not been appointed in the first place. He had no managerial experience listening to his first interview all he could tell us is who he had worked for, not in a coaching role, but more of a recruitment role, a couple of good signings made but no clue of how to manage them.
